I have been able to make the creamiest smoothies with it. For example, I can blend strawberries, blueberries, and bananas together so well, that there are no longer any seeds or grainy texture present. I don't think all the buttons make much difference in speed/torque but it blends well and that's what I bought it to do. I haven't tried blending ice yet but my neighbor's unit blends it very well. That's why I bought this model. I figured if her's chopped ice then it ought to handle ice cream, milk and chocolate OK too.
